In a move that will have a positive impact on 99% of PageSuite’s clients, Apple has announced they will be halving the commission they take from the sale of apps. Developers who qualify will receive reduced App Store fees for paid app and in-app purchases.

From January 1st, any ‘app-maker’ that earnt £830,000 ($1 million) or less from Apple’s marketplace in 2020 will only be required to give up 15% in 2021 – the rate is currently 30%.

It’s a positive move following recent bad press, where Apple were accused of capitalizing on small businesses, particularly those who were struggling during the pandemic. There are around 28 million developers using Apple’s App Store and these changes will be welcome news for many with some app makers seeing the amount they pay Apple half.
