What is PageSuite® - and what’s its purpose?
- It’s a digital publishing application capable of creating online publications designed to complement - or, ultimately, supersede - conventional print editions. Its advanced page-turning technology not only replicates the offline reading experience but also provides many additional features to enhance this experience - such as interactive rich content, the inclusion of all kinds of links, the opportunity to print pages or email them to friends, and much more besides.
- It’s suitable not only for all kinds of news media - national, regional and local newspapers, consumer magazines, business-to-business, trade and specialist titles and so on - but also catalogues, programmes, brochures, leaflets...
- In short, it represents a vital new communication channel for any business seeking wider engagement with the demanding, affluent and increasingly media-savvy twenty-first century audience.
Will readers be expected to pay for access?
- As the publisher, this is entirely up to you. You may wish to allow your readers free access to all parts of the online publication, or you may require them to pre-pay before accessing anything. Naturally, there’s also a whole range of options between these extremes, which we’ll be happy to discuss with you.
How much will it all cost?
- As you’d expect, costs will depend on the nature of your specific requirement. That said, our prices - which can be quoted per page or per publication depending on the number and frequency of your editions - are always extremely competitive. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
How will readers access my digital editions?
- As the publisher, it’s entirely up to you. You can choose whether to put a direct link on your website, or to feature a link in the ‘members only’ part of your website. (These links will automatically go to the latest edition, so there’s no need to update them.)
- You can also send the link out via email. A great advantage of this is that the email does not contain anything that spam control software may mistake as spam.
- You can burn all PageSuite® files onto a CD to send out. An internet connection is not needed to view PageSuite® on a CD.
How do I publish my digital editions?
- Once an account has been set up you can process and manage your own publications using our PageSuite® Control Panel.
- We can provide training either by phone or arrange a meeting with you to show you how to use the PageSuite® Control Panel. We also have a step by step guide so meetings may not be necessary.
- You will upload single page PDFs to our server using FTP. We only support passive FTP connections; we do not support Active FTP. You then pick a date and time to process the PDFs.
- Once your pages have been processed a link of the publication is sent to you by email.
What do I need to name the PDFs?
- You should try to name your PDFs as follows: 001.pdf, 002.pdf, 003.pdf, 004.pdf, 005.pdf, 006.pdf, 007.pdf, 008.pdf, 009.pdf, 010.pdf. This will then make sure your pages are in the correct order when processed.
- You need to upload individual page PDFs. However in PageSuite® Professional you can upload one multipage PDF as PageSuite® will split them out for you. What about Quality?
- Standard resolution is 72dpi. The higher the resolution of the PDFs the better the quality of the end result.
What about links?
- You can put internal and external links in all publications and editions using a very simple tool in the PageSuite® Control Panel.
- There are a number of link styles to choose from to let the reader know a link is present.
What about reading a PageSuite® publication offline?
- This is up to the publisher. You can choose to allow extracts to be created in PDF format and stored locally for offline reading.
- Another option is to create a CD for physical distribution as mentioned earlier.
Who does PageSuite® use to host my publications?
- Rackspace.com in London, United Kingdom. They guarantee 99.9% uptime for their servers, which will mean your digital edition will always be available, 24/7, without fail.
Can I host the PageSuite® publication myself?
- No. The reasons for this are so we can keep our costs down and service levels up. We do not allow the risk of external factors to degrade our service.
What does a publisher require?
- As a hosted solution all you need is an internet connection and a browser.
- PageSuite® can run on all PC and Macintosh browsers.
What does a reader require?
- All a reader needs is internet access and a browser.
- PageSuite® also requires a minimum of Flash 8 however most browsers today have this installed. If a reader does not have Flash 8 installed then PageSuite® will prompt the user to install it and will provide links for this.
As a reader what do I do next?
- If it is not already available via PageSuite®, ask the publisher of your favourite reading material why they do not yet have a PageSuite® version.
As a publisher what do I do next?
