Apple Announce Details of iOS 7
11/6/2013
Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference is currently taking place in San Francisco, and last night their CEO, Tim Cook, took the opportunity to announce details of software updates and an overhaul of their mobile operating system during a keynote address… "the biggest change to iOS since the introduction of iPhone in 2007".
Now that we’ve had time to digest their announcements and install the developer release on to our devices, we’ve summarised some of the details below…
- iOS 7 will receive a design overhaul, heavily influenced by Sir Jonathan Ive and his clean-cut, 2 dimensional designs. We’ll see a shift away from ‘textured’ icons and a move towards a new ‘clean and flat’ interface. All of those wooden, material and alloy surfaces have been replaced
- We’ll see the introduction of iTunes Radio – this will offer users themed stations which can be tailored to their iTunes listening history with the ability to purchase any songs directly
- The camera will be completely re-designed with more filters and Instagram-sized auto-cropping
- The notification centre has been re-designed to be less intrusive yet still having the ability to display more information at the flick of a finger
- Multitasking has been improved with a familiar looking "cards" style system to easily swipe between and close open applications
The update will be available in the autumn…we’re looking forward to it!
