Big Hitting Digital and Mobile Apps
Metro is the UK’s biggest free daily newspaper, with a print circulation of over 1.3m. As such, they needed a software provider who could handle every aspect of digital edition and mobile publishing; from automated processing, emailing and push notifying app readers, to a customised digital interface. This has been enhanced by our 2010 launch of Metro UK and Metro Herald’s bespoke iPhone apps, which went straight to No.1 in iTunes, followed in 2011 by Metro UK’s intuitive iPad app, which we created the ‘replica edition’ element for.
Consistent Delivery and Trusted Strategy
Our development team worked hard to deliver a completely customised online newspaper and app reader interface complete with social networking, powerful search and a host of other great features – all tailored to Metro’s bespoke design.
Automated processing and publishing to 400,000 daily e-subscribers and 350,000 app readers is standard practise, however we designed new email and push notification templates, reducing bounce rates and increasing time in-app to 20 minutes, really engaging readers.
We also advised on their digital edition marketing - with direct links from their homepage, email marketing and print adverts, Metro is successfully creating a valuable database and increasing circulation across multiple devices.
Industry-Leading and Cross-Platform Success
Not only does the cross-channel publishing seamlessly fit with Metro’s print and online brand, but our editions and apps are recognised as an industry benchmark and transcend the newspaper-magazine distinction.
Daily marketing continues to increase readership rates and the social networking tools featured in the interface are engaging readers, driving content sharing and building the Metro brand around the UK.
Metro page turning digital, iPhone and iPad editions are integrated with house and external advertising, monetising the millions of weekly page impressions. For publishers who just want their print editions replicated, Metro is a great example of delivering a free title revenue model.
